Who We Are

Ian Hunt is our managing Partner and is a respected private client specialist with over 26 years-’ experience as a qualified Private Client Lawyer. Ian is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives having been admitted as a Fellow in 1992, as well as a longstanding full member of both The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (since 1995) and Solicitors for the Elderly (since 2001) and holds the Older Care in Practice Award. Ian is only one of 34 lawyers nationally to hold membership of the Equity Release Council and is a member of the National Mental Capacity Forum. He is also a panel advisor for Mencap and the National Autistic Society and a member of Action on Elder Abuse, as well as being a Commissioner for Oaths.

 

Derek Hunt is our senior Partner and is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives having been admitted as a Fellow in 1968. He was also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and a Licensed Conveyancer. Derek brings a wealth of experience of varied legal work from his 40 years in Local Government-, particularly in Conveyancing where he dealt with the Council’s major development projects. Derek is also a Commissioner for Oaths.


Robert Scott is a consultant Solicitor who specialises in contentious probate matters and has acted for both Claimants and Defendants in such disputes over the course of the past 27 years since qualifying. Formerly a partner with Every's Solicitors and Kitsons LLP in Exeter and East Devon, Robert has worked as a Consultant since 2014. His practice has extended throughout the country, including the regular conduct of contested matters in the High Court in Bristol, London and elsewhere, as well as across the County Court Circuit. Robert’s style is one of patience and empathy whilst investigating matters with attention to detail, advising clearly and comprehensively ‘warts and all’. With openness in terms of costs, the client is enabled to make a fully informed decision before embarking upon what can be an expensive and distressing process but one which, nonetheless, seeks to achieve a just and fair outcome.


Steven Carman is a consultant Solicitor who specialises in corporate and commercial work with a focus on share sales and acquisitions, business sales and acquisitions, joint ventures, MBOs, employee share incentives, company reorganisations, shareholder agreements & business succession, corporate governance and commercial contracts. He began his career in law in 1998 and has been a partner at two Southwest firms.


Gloria P Ryden LLB, Notary Public. Gloria studied Law at London University and is a retired solicitor and Notary Public. Her practice as a Notary Public is mobile and, although based at home, Gloria can be seen in the offices of East Devon Law or at other offices in the area by arrangement. Gloria can undertake the following types of notarial certification for individuals and companies:Powers of Attorney for world-wide use, statutory declarations, international affidavits,  sworn statements and depositions,  notarisation of certificates of incorporation or memorandum and articles of association, notarised certificates of good standing, certified copy documents for world-wide use, university certificates,  immigration forms,  residency forms,  permission for children to travel with lone parent.


Lynne Follett-Carmen is a Consultant Solicitor having previously worked for Michelmores LLP in Exeter where she had been working in the Real Estate team. She deals with all aspects of commercial property (freehold and leasehold) and landlord and tenant transactions. Lynne also enjoys residential sales and purchases and general property matters.



Adele Hunt is our Practice and Accounts Manager and was instrumental in helping Ian set up the firm in 2012. Adele has a teaching degree and is currently undertaking the CILEX exams to become a fully qualified lawyer. Adele has great organisational skills as well as excellent inter-personal skills which will help her become a great private client lawyer.


Thelma Collier is our Compliance and Client Services Manager. Thelma has a wealth of experience in both financial and legal compliance and ensures we maintain the highest standards of client care and that all the relevant legal compliance is adhered to.

 

Chris Seal has worked for law firms for nearly 40 years, principally in Private Client. She has always had an interest in IT and has developed that interest to be involved in the implantation of systems in various firms over the years. Chris looks after our form designs and precedents as well as assisting in maintaining our IT systems.


Steve Jupp is our deputy Compliance Manager and previously worked for many years in financial services before switching careers to become HR Director in the NHS via learning to teach the Alexander Technique. He supervises our archives, and has a keen eye for detail and a deep respect for the personal privacy of all our clients.


Wendy Jupp trained as a legal secretary, focusing on Wills and Probate on leaving school. After raising a family, she retrained and worked in education and then with a local Public Health team;- in all areas where discretion and client confidentiality are paramount. Wendy is very pleased to put her skills and experience to use within a legal environment again.
